I stopped buying Storm Collectibles figures because they were continually having issues. It was E Honda that convinced me to give SC another chance and even then, it took my quite awhile to actually purchase it. I bought the 2020 New York Comic Con version with the green outfit because at $90, it was the cheapest E Honda on the figure specialty site I bought it from. I count at least five color variants for this figure but I don’t favor any one color.
I am very happy to report that I find no issues with this figure. In terms of video game accuracy, I’d say that the figure is damn near perfect. He has a variety of outfits in the game and this one is the simplest and most iconic. Storm Collectibles really excels at beefy figures, so E. Honda is right in their wheelhouse. Honda has always had a hilarious amount of muscular definition for a sumo wrestler with a massive girth. Despite having a tremendous midsection, he still has very obvious abdominals, but that is accurate to the game.
Storm Collectibles has always been about form over function and the articulation is secondary to the look. If you think you’re going to be able to put E. Honda into his classic pose where he is squatting down ready to fly forward, think again. I think even without his costume he’d be unable to do it but with the costume there is absolutely no way. His costume is a very thin, soft rubber but I really like it. I expected it to be a much firmer rubber, but this is about as close you can come to a fabric type feel using rubber. The colors are extremely vibrant, and the paint job looks fantastic. I give this figure a near perfect score for looks.
Storm Collectibles is back in my good graces and maybe they’ve shored up some of their QC issue. It’s just felt like the figures were getting progressively worse. I definitely plan to get the upcoming Balrog figure which has long been one of my most desired characters in figure form. Let’s hope Storm Collectibles continues putting out high quality going forward.
